Programmes
Learning Support
We provide a number of additional programmes to support children in their learning. These include:
- P.M.P. (Perceptual motor programme)
- H.P.P. (Oral language programme)
- Talk to Learn
- Tutor Reading
- Reading Recovery
- Targeted Numeracy Groups
- Literacy Support Groups
We also have four teacher aides who work alongside children in classrooms, providing both extra support and extension opportunities.
Discovery Time
Each Wednesday morning all classes participate in “Discovery Time” which is a hands on activity based programme. Children make decisions about their own learning and choose from a wide range of physical, art, technology, drama, cooking, gardening, language and mathematics activities. Each week children embark on creative and imaginative projects as they explore the world around them. The senior children take on leadership roles supporting the younger children and developing activities for them.
Aquatics
Each week in Terms 2 and 3, the whole school has swimming instruction at Moana Pool. Children have a half hour lesson with the “Swimsation” swimming instructors and then have a half hour session in the leisure pool.
Eduction Outside the Classroom
We provide a range of E.O.T.C. experiences throughout the year. We aim to go on a trip or have visiting performances at the school at least once a term, making the most of the resources in our local community. Senior children attend a four day camp in either Year 5 or 6.
Lunchtime Programmes
At lunch times we provide a wide range activities for the children to participate in. These include Dance, Drama and Music Tuition. All classes are taken by expert tutors in their field. Groups are organised according to the children’s interests. Currently the children are able to join the following groups:
- Hip Hop
- Ukulele
- Guitar
- Keyboard
Sporting Opportunities
We employ a sports co-ordinator who organises games and sporting activities to keep children active during lunchtimes and encourage them to try new sports. We are also part of the Sports Activator programme. Depending on children’s interest we have teams in the local Touch Rugby, Hockey, Netball and T. Ball competitions. Our children also compete in inter-school Cross Country and Athletics events.
